The Box Office opens its doors
The Box Office Exhibition is now open Second year students studying the BA Honours in Fine Art for Design at Kirklees College, Wheelwright Centre will be revealing their creative talents at imaginative exhibition in Dewsbury this May.

The 'Box Office' exhibition at Empire House in Dewsbury is open to the public from 7-21 May and will showcase work from a very unique course that Kirklees College offers at its Wheelwright Centre.

Artwork from eight students was unveiled at a private showing on Thursday May 6 before the doors opened to the public to experience the creativity on show.

Richard Gray is the course lecturer. He said:

"This is the second year running that we have worked with Targetfollow in Empire House. It really is a great opportunity for the students to work with an important national company like this especially because of their very strong arts profile and their support of the Arts. They have been extremely generous in letting us have this space again and it demonstrates the role the visual arts have in contributing to regeneration and the local community and economy.

"Last year the exhibition was themed around the centenary of The Empire Palace Theatre which stood on the site, this year we will obviously acknowledge that history but we wanted to explore ideas about what the building is today especially as Empire House is fifty years old this year, hence the title of the exhibition 'Box Office'. We're really looking forward to people visiting the exhibition and seeing some excellent work."

The BA (hons) course offered at Kirklees College is one of many Higher Education courses now on offer, but is very different from many art and design courses found in the region. The innovative curriculum explores the boundaries of traditional fine art and design practice, to reflect the cultural and technical changes in contemporary society and the creative industries.

Visit the exhibition for free at the second floor of Empire House in Dewsbury (opposite the Town Hall) between 11am - 4.30pm Monday - Friday from 7-21 May 2010.
