| Hollie's illustrations are booked in for global award |
The 'In Book' award is an internationally recognised art and design achievement and students' work is published in the D&AD Student Awards Annual. 21 year old Hollie from Batley has had her work selected to be featured in the annual and on the winners website and will receive a certificate to commemorate in recognition of the award. Fine Art for Design degree students from the Batley School of Art and Design, Kirklees College have entered the student awards for the last three years and so far two students have been awarded 'In Book'; one in 2008 and Hollie in 2010. Eve Gray is the course leader for BA(Hons) Fine Art for Design. She said: "For a small course like ours, that isn’t a specialist within the D&AD traditional industry disciplines, this is a fantastic achievement. Our students are competing with over 1,000 colleges and courses from around the world. Hollie's award is a credit to her, BA (Hons Fine Art for Design, the Batley School of Art & Design and Kirklees College." D&AD (formerly known as British Design and Art Direction) is a British educational charity which exists to promote excellence in design and advertising. The annual D&AD Awards are highly respected, and regarded as a major event in the world of design and advertising. A specialist jury selected 560 entries including Hollie’s to go into the Student Award Annual from all over the world. Hollie said: "This is a very exciting and very high profile start to my professional career. To be awarded ‘In Book’ is something that I wasn’t expecting at all and I was so surprised when I found out. This award is fantastic as it promotes my work world wide via D&AD, so who knows what might happen next." Fergal Kilroy, Student Awards Manager at D&AD said:
"I would like to stress how proud all students should feel at being selected for In-Book or receiving a Nomination. This year's juries were very strict. Winning entries were selected on the basis that they demonstrated the student could ‘cut it’ in the real world, making success in 2010 a great achievement for both the college tutors and their students."
