| Ben's artwork on show in London |
Free Range is an Old Truman Brewery (London) special project set up to support new creative talent. The Free Range graduate art and design show takes place every June and July at the Old Truman Brewery and will this year feature Kirklees College’s Ben Raynor’s work amongst four other winners. Ben is a final year student on the BA Honours Fine Art for Design course at Kirklees College.
The show provides the best platform for graduate art and design students to showcase their work to both public and industry. Free Range is a one stop shop featuring more than 100 university courses from across the UK providing visitors with a unique opportunity to meet the hottest new creative talent all under one roof. Shows rotate weekly over the eight week season and are curated by discipline including design, graphics, photography, art and interiors. In May, Free Range announced the winners of the Free Range Art Awards, marking its 10th year in residence at the Old Truman Brewery. Out of all 2010’s fantastic participants, the Award Panel of leading industry figures has carefully selected five of the UK’s brightest talents as winners of the exciting award. The winners, chosen by the notable panel, are Ben Raynor (Batley School of Art and Design, Kirklees College), Chris Mear, Robert Attard, Anna Taylor and Nicola Thompson. The diverse selection, embracing Ben Raynor’s humorous mixed media drawing Albert alongside Anna Taylor’s subtly emotive photograph Grandad, demonstrates Free Range at its best. The set is complimented in equal measure by Robert Attard’s stunningly bold portrait, Chris Mear’s colourful perspective and Nicola Thompson’s atmospheric photograph. Tonight, Ben’s work will be unveiled at a private viewing before ‘going public’ from 2-5 July. As part of Free Range’s ongoing support of new graduate artists and designers, the Free Range Award will give these best new stars in art and photography the extra lift towards launching their careers. Each selected work will be produced as a print in a limited edition of 25, giving the artists the opportunity to sell their work while at the same time gaining invaluable expert advice and PR support.
The exclusive limited edition prints of work by the five winners will be available to buy at Free Range 2010 and also online at www.culturelabel.com from 3rd June. [01/07/2010]
